This information has become very important to teachers both in the service and those yet to join the service soon.
Many times, young teachers especially the newly trained ones are in a hurry to further their education right after graduating from colleges.
Until recent times that, the former Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh together with Education Ministry raised the standard of teachers nationwide to degree status, all the public Colleges of Education were producing teachers with DBE certificates.
Because of the new education policy, several degree programmes have been introduced in all the public colleges of education nationwide. Beginning this year, Teacher trainees graduating with degree certificates which when employed by the GES, will be put on the Principal Superintendent rank automatically.
Also, in order to upgrade more in-service teachers to a degree status, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana National Association of Graduate Teachers (GNAT) partnered with the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to introduce a temporal three semester top-up programme for DBE holders in the service.
However, since a large percentage of teachers hold Diploma In Basic Education certificates (DBE), there are some required or mandatory years a teacher must serve in the service before he/she qualifies for promotion to a higher rank.
Kindly check the required time period you are qualified to write for promotion to a Principal Superintendent and when you can actually begin pursuing your further studies.
