The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is considering scheduling the timetable for the examination of 2022 WASSCE in May/June rather than last year which was written in August /September as it prepares to release the timetable in the near future.
According to an official from WAEC, Prof. Ato Essuman, the Chairman of Council, Nigeria’s Minister for Education had proposed to WAEC to conduct this year’s WASSCE in May/June instead of previous dates.
Although the autonomous examination body has not heeded to the Minister’s request, it has said that they will consider as preparations are underway to draw the timetable for 2022 WASSCE. Stakeholders, parents, guardians, and students will be well-informed when the timetable is finally released.
On the issue of withheld results of some candidates of the 2021 WASSCE, the non-profit organization noted that it will release or cancel the results of thousands of candidates when the investigation is completed. Last year, on December 8,2021, WAEC realized results of about 440,000 candidates. About 1,300 subject results and 174 entire results were being cancelled for various exams malpractices.
A total of 446,352 candidates, made up of 221,439 (49.6%) males and 224,913 (50.4%) females from 965 schools sat for examination in 2021. However, a total of 3,545 registered candidates were absent.
