Teachers have long been waiting for an opportunity to travel outside the shores of Ghana to work abroad in countries where their conditions of services are better off than Ghana.
That notwithstanding, many professional teachers have managed to travel outside, and they are currently faring well. An example is one Science teacher in Vietnam whose videos have gone viral on social media platforms lately.
Ghana’s Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has revealed that the Minister for Education in the United Kingdom is eager to recruit teachers from Ghana.
Speaking on Kumasi-based radio and TV station;Wontumi TV, the NPP member of parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency in the Ashanti region disclosed that in his conversation with the UK Minister, he expressed his country’s eagerness to employ Ghanaian teachers when the latter got to know that Ghana has more teachers than any African country.
Although the education minister did not reveal additional information concerning the UK Minister’s intent, he explained that there are more graduates who are Science and Mathematics teachers who have graduated from the Kwame University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Winneba (UEW) but are currently unemployed in the country.
The Teaching Minister also disclosed that when he attends international conferences, his colleague African leaders are thrilled by Ghana’s huge number of teachers, which is second to none on the whole African continent.
We hope that the Ministry of Education will go into partnership with the UK Education Ministry to see to the deployment of graduate teachers to work and live in the UK. This will help Ghana to generate more revenue from remittances as well as boost the economy.
Some of us in service teachers are ever ready to leave this country and work abroad. It is not that Ghana is not a conducive environment to work,, but it is because we want to have an international exposure.
