In response to the recent announcement by three Teacher Unions in the Pre-Tertiary Education sector declaring a withdrawal of their services, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued directives to ensure the safety and well-being of students across the nation.
Effective Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, the Teacher Unions’ decision has prompted GES management to instruct heads of public Kindergarten, Primary, Junior, and Senior High Schools to mobilize their management teams. Their primary objective is to guarantee the safety of all students amidst the ongoing developments.
While parents are understandably concerned, GES management urges calm and reassures them that the situation is under close observation. Further guidance will be provided as necessary.
Regional and District Directors have been tasked with the responsibility of keeping schools operational and maintaining supervision over students who attend classes. This measure is to remain in place until additional directives are issued by GES management.
As the situation unfolds, GES remains committed to ensuring the continuity of education while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all students and staff members.
In a recent address, Celestine Kosi Agodo, South Tongu District Education Director, underscored the need for fair treatment and support for teachers in rural areas. She called for restored allowances and better salary adjustments, emphasizing that improving educators’ welfare is crucial for motivation, retention, and the overall quality of education.
