In a heartwarming display of solidarity, GNAT (Ghana National Association of Teachers) and Teachers Fund, together with a host of dignitaries, rallied to provide crucial support to the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage floods in Volta. The “Highlights of the Meeting” revealed a touching story of compassion and aid.
On this auspicious day, prominent figures such as the President of GNAT, Rev. Isaac Owusu, and the General Secretary, Mr. Thomas Tanko Musa, joined the gathering. Notable guests included the Board Chairman of Teacher’s Fund and the Volta Regional Chairman, Mr. David Kattah, alongside national, regional, and South Tongu District officers, as well as the District and Local Executives.
The meeting was concise due to its simultaneous occurrence with a session involving the Education Ministry and their entourage. The North Tongu District Chairman unveiled the purpose of the gathering, leading to introductions of all the distinguished guests. The poignant moments came when the General Secretary and other guests expressed their condolences for the victims of the Akosombo dam spillage floods.
The presentations were the heart of the meeting, as Teachers Fund presented a generous cheque with a face value of GHC50,000.00, followed by GNAT’s impressive contribution of GHC100,000.00. These substantial donations were received by the Volta Regional Secretary, Mr. Baba Kassim. Mr. Kassim assured the audience that a committee would be formed in Ho the following day to oversee the equitable distribution of funds to all flood victims in Volta.
Before the vote of thanks, the District Chairman made an earnest appeal for more substantial support. He implored Teachers Fund to consider approving loan applications from North Tongu, elaborating on the pressing needs. Fortunately, his request was met with a warm reception and a firm commitment to grant his appeal.
The meeting concluded as the guests transitioned to visit the St. Kizito safe haven, reflecting the remarkable compassion and unity displayed by the community in the face of adversity.
