The final students numbering about ten were allegedly returning from the headteachers farm. It is reported that the boat on which they were crossing the river from the farm to their house capsized resulting in the death of the seven, while the three are still not found.

As the tradition of many schools in the rural areas, it reported that some teachers in school normally take the pupils to the farm to assist in their farm work every Friday.
