The 2021 transfer window for staff members of the Ghana Education Service was opened in May 2021 across the country. The transfer included both intra and inter-districts nationwide. After several back and forth which of course frustrated many staff members, the Director-General of GES is said to release approved transfers and release letters very soon.
From a reliable source, the DG will from November 2021 issue approved letters for successful staff members seeking inter – regional and inter-district transfers to the various Regional Directors of Education. Beginning November 2021, any GES staff member who applied for reposting can inquire from his or her Regional Education Directorate about his/her status.
Once your application is successful, that is approved by D-G, your Regional Director will issue a release letter indicating that you have been released from the Region, which obviously implies that your new Region or District can begin processing your documents for your reposting to a new school in the same district.
However, if you do not get approved by the Director-General, your Regional Director cannot give you a Release letter, and therefore you cannot move out of your current Region or District. You can, however, try your luck in the next transfer window.
Teachers and other staff members who are granted Release and Transfer letters will officially move out to their new stations come next academic year. That is January 2022.
This year’s transfer was marked by so many complications, frustrations, and misinformation. There were instances where some Districts Directors refused to accept release letters even when the stipulated deadline was not reached. This was a deliberate approach to deny some teachers Transfers or Release. It is time GES goes digital and relegate the paper and photocopy system to the background.
We are in the technological dispensation where everything is almost possible. If GES has been able to shift from manually posting teachers to creating an online portal, the same can be applied to teacher Transfers and Release in order to lower the risk involved in traveling to and from one district to another.
