The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, has reiterated that final year students in public basic schools across the country are not required to pay registration fees before they can sit for BECE.

Following yesterday’s incident at Gomoa East in the Central Region, the aspiring Member of Parliament for the Asante Akyim North revealed on his Facebook page debunking allegations of a school headteacher misspending some candidates’ registration fees which resulted in the candidates’ denial to sit for the 2023 BECE.

He started, “It is important to clarify that, unlike private schools, students enrolled in public Junior High Schools are not required to pay any registration fees for the BECE. The Ghanaian government, in its commitment to ensuring quality education for all, covers the entire cost of registration for the BECE for students in public schools.”

According to Mr. Kwarteng, such allegations are unfounded and thus should be eschewed by headteachers in public schools except for those in private schools.

“Therefore, the allegations of the headmaster squandering registration fees should not apply to public Junior High Schools, as there is no financial burden placed on the students or their parents for BECE registration.” He mentioned.

Parents have been urged to verify information and see accurate details. “We encourage parents and guardians to verify information and seek accurate details regarding matters related to education to avoid any misconceptions.” He added.
