Dr. Akwasi Amakye Boateng, a Senior Lecturer in Political Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is encouraging Ghanaian teachers to explore opportunities abroad for improved working conditions.

He expressed concern that successive governments in Ghana have often neglected the welfare of teachers.

He stated, “In the past, it was said that a teacher’s reward is in heaven, but I can confidently tell you, their reward lies in the Western world. Many other countries are in dire need of Ghanaian teachers, and they are becoming increasingly scarce here. If you are a teacher, consider seeking opportunities abroad. Don’t stay here and face hardship.”

Dr. Amakye Boateng shared these sentiments during a discussion on Angel FM, Kumasi, emphasizing that young teachers shouldn’t endure unfavorable conditions in Ghana when better prospects await them in Western countries.

He also stressed that teachers deserve better treatment within their own country and should receive appropriate recognition for their valuable work during their lifetime. Dr. Amakye Boateng made these comments while discussing a report highlighting the substantial loss of teachers in Ghana in recent years.

He attributed the challenges faced by Ghanaian teachers to the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.
