The National Teaching Council’s Emergency licence is for “untrained teachers” also known as non-professional teachers, and they are to register for a training programme to qualify them to practise.
The emergency license is basically targeted at about 120,000 non-professional teachers in both private and public schools across the country.
Purpose
The training of the non-professional teachers for the emergency license is to hone their skills and also resource them.
Cost of the Emergency License
The GHC 250 and it covers the cost of training, certificate, resource books and support systems
Emergency License Expiry Date
Untrained teachers issued with this licence are within 3 years expected to take necessary steps to acquire the relevant teacher education qualifications for the full licence.
Note
Non-professional teachers who registered with NTC last year (for the same programme) should send their names, email address, name of school, phone number to the NTC.
Those in public schools who were not professional in 2018 but registered on the platform and have 95% but now have their professional certificate are to sit for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE).
Trained teacher but no license
For those who teach in private schools who are trained teachers but without a license, they cannot apply for job in public schools with the emergency license.
Registered but have not received the license
For those who have already registered for the license but still have not received it, you are asked to contact the NTC for assistance.
Also, that note that the emergency license does not qualify you to be a professional teacher. It is only being given to you for a short period of time after going through a short training programme which will be organized by the NTC. You will then be given the Emergency License Certificate.
Non-professional teachers in public schools
Non-professional teachers working in public schools but without license are to register on the NTC portal by creating an account and uploading the necessary documents. Choose apply as a non-professional teacher.
