The National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has been a beacon of enthusiasm for science and mathematics education in Ghana. The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, expressed his appreciation for Primetime, the organization behind NSMQ, during the grand finale of the 2023 competition at the National Theatre in Accra on October 30, 2023.

This year’s NSMQ grand finale witnessed fierce competition between three exceptional schools: Opoku Ware School (OWASS), Presbyterian Boys Senior High, Legon (PRESEC), and Achimota School (MOTOWN), all of which have claimed victory in the past. The Minister acknowledged the outstanding efforts of these schools and encouraged the contestants by stating, “No matter what happens, contestants, you have done well for your schools.”

The NSMQ has played a pivotal role in nurturing a passion for science and mathematics among Senior High School students in Ghana. It has become a platform where young minds can showcase their knowledge and problem-solving skills in these vital subjects.

In addition to kindling an interest in science and mathematics, the NSMQ serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their intellectual prowess and compete on a national stage. The competition has grown in popularity over the years, and its impact on education in Ghana is undeniable.

However, it’s worth noting that the Ministry of Education has denied reports of the cancellation of teachers’ and nurses’ trainee allowances. These allowances have been essential in supporting future educators and healthcare professionals on their educational journeys.

The NSMQ continues to be a symbol of academic excellence in Ghana, inspiring the next generation of scientists and mathematicians. It not only encourages healthy competition but also highlights the significance of these subjects in shaping the country’s future. The Education Minister’s commendation of the NSMQ underscores the importance of initiatives that promote a love for science and mathematics among students.

In conclusion, the National Science & Maths Quiz has not only raised the bar for academic excellence but has also fueled the fire of curiosity and passion for science and mathematics in Ghana. It stands as a testament to the dedication of students and educators in the pursuit of knowledge.
