Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu, the Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, has introduced the Sosu Best Teacher Award Scheme (SBTA), the first of its kind in the Constituency. The award scheme falls under the Madina Education Scheme (EDUScheme) which is aimed at improving education in the constituency.

The NDC member of parliament noted that quality education is essential to building good leaders for the development of every country. He noted that teacher motivation is the most profound challenge of Ghana since time immemorial.

The human rights lawyer identified some challenges faced by teachers and head teachers as a result of lack of teaching and learning resources among others being the cause of delivering poor education in the Madina constituency.

“Over the years, teacher motivation has been one of the biggest challenges of the nation. As such, long hours of work under very deplorable conditions and work environment, lack of adequate teaching and learning materials, and low incomes, among many others, have posed as a major

obstacle towards the achievement of SDG 4, which reads Quality Education.” He noted.
The award scheme is aimed at appreciating hardworking and dedicated teachers in his constituency.

“To increase the motivation of Teachers in the Madina-La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly, I have established the SOSU BEST TEACHER AWARDS (SBTW), to appreciate hardworking and dedicated teachers in the Municipality and inspire other teachers to aspire to greatness.” He stated.

The maiden annual Teachers Award programme comes off on January 7,2022, at the University of Professional Studies, ACCRA, (UPSA). The ultimate winner takes home with a brand-new car and other consolation prizes for the first and second runner-up.

The goal of the award scheme is to see that school children in both private and public schools do well and become great leaders tomorrow.

We hope that other members of parliament will learn from their colleague MP to award Best Performing teachers and students in their constituencies. This is because the National Best Teacher Award organised by the NTC annually is not enough to cater for well deserved to teachers in the country looking at teachers population.
