In the wake of Circuit Supervisors and head teachers being on the nerves of teachers to write and submit their lesson notes for vetting, lesson notes writing has become a bone of contention between teachers and their superiors.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, has disclosed that lesson notes writing is a thing of the past. The Minister, in an interview on Wontumi, added that teachers will no longer write lesson notes because of the introduction of the laptops for teachers.

The Minister, speaking on the topic STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) on Kumasi based radio station, added that the introduction of Professional Development has replaced lesson notes wiring. He added that, Professional Learning Communities are being organized in schools to build the teacher competences.

Explaining further why the writing of lesson notes writing is no more binding on teachers, he noted that there is no need to ask teachers to write lesson notes because the latter have been copying previous notes written years ago into their lesson notes book without any addition.

The Education Minister’s statement is a reaffirmation of what the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Bawumia, said at the launch of the One Teacher One Laptop Project in Accra. Dr. Bawumia had also said that teachers will no longer be pushed or subjected to writing lesson notes again because a soft copy of the lesson notes have been uploaded on the laptop with additional vital resources

The Teaching Minster is speaking on different platforms to preach the introduction of STEM education into the senior high school curriculum which will in the years to come produce more Scientists, Engineers, Mathematicians for national development.

So, if you are a teacher or head teacher, please take note that writing of lesson writing is no more compulsion but if you wish to write, you are at liberty to do so.
