Information reaching us from a reliable source indicates that professional development allowance for this year will be paid to both teaching and non teaching staff of GES by the end of November.

The Ministry of Finance has released funds meant to pay the allowance for the year 2021. The money will reflect on the validation voucher for the month of November 2021. This means that, the money will be paid at the end of November 2021 added to the November salary.

It will be recalled that the government last year introduced the professional development allowance for both teaching and non teaching staff of GES in November 2020. Although many teachers thought it was meant to win teachers vote, the allowance has come to stay indeed.

What to take note

Staff of GES are to take note that a sum of GH¢ 550.00 will be deducted from the allowance and the remaining balance will be added to their salary. The amount is the 30% cost of the TM1 laptop borne by the teacher as agreed by the teacher unions and the Ministry of Education.

Purpose of the allowance

As the name of the allowance implies, staff members are to use the money to develop themselves professionally. Therefore, they are mandated to undertake professional courses, which will be organized by consultancies approved by the NTC. These courses range from GH¢25.00 to GH¢100 per a course.
