The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that teachers from the various public universities reading education programmes will be recruited to come next year.
The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency disclosed on Wontumi TV today during an interview with Oheneba that the Ghana Education Service will start recruiting graduate teachers around January and February 2022.
The Teaching Minister’s statement follows several concerns raised by graduates and well-meaning Ghanaians about the latest recruitment for newly trained teachers from the various public Colleges of Education in the country.
Many graduates including NABCO trainees under the Educate Ghana model are worried about the delay in the recruitment of teachers by the Ghana Education Service amidst the financial clearance given to the Ghana Education Service through the Education Ministry to recruit about 16,000 newly qualified teachers into the classrooms.
Concerning the government’s recruiting NABCO trainees who have qualifications similar to the newly trained teachers, Dr. Yaw Osei revealed that students from the various Colleges of Education will from next year be graduating with degree certificates thus, there would not be the traditional posting of Newly Trained teachers anymore.
In that respect, the Ghana Education Service will be recruiting graduate teachers only. He added that, the government is looking into how best to possibly recruit NABCO trainees under the Educate Ghana model into GES.
The Minster noted the efforts made by teachers who attended Jackson College of Education, (a private institution approved by GES to train teachers). He noted that many teachers in the Northern parts of Ghana had their training from that college. Thus, the Ministry is considering how best to recruit them as well.
