“We are running the final draft by heads of schools and other stakeholders for their input,” Prof. Opoku Amankwah, Director-General of GES noted.

Following numerous concerns raised by guardians, parents, students and other stakeholders about the uncertainty of the double track academic calendar for senior high schools in the past years , Prof. Kwasi Opoku disclosed that a stable academic calendar for double track schools and other SHS is under preparation and will be released soon.

Explaining why the delay in releasing the academic calendar, the DG noted that two things caused the delay-First, the onset of Covid-19 interrupted the academic calendar because there was a ban on social gathering which made students to stay home for almost a year.

Secondly, the inclusion of more TVET Schools into free SHS education meant that the Ministry of Education had to reconcile it with the senior high school’s academic calendar to suit all students and teachers.

The Director-General also added that the new academic calendar is being planned such that parents, school authorities and stakeholders in education can reliably depend on it as well as ensure the smooth running of activities in school without any interpolation when finalized.
