In the wake of lack of textbooks to supplement the Standard-Based Curriculum workshop organized in 2019 for basic school teachers which targeted only Kindergarten and Primary learners, the Education Minister has revealed the period to commence the distribution of the textbooks.
Throwing light on the issue on the Talking Point TV programme, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the substantive sector Minister mentioned, “… One of the things is textbooks negotiation in terms of pricing and other things. Now, we have selected the books. The publishers are going through negotiations with the procurement division of the Ministry of Education.”
Concerning the time frame for the distribution of the textbooks, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency added, “… and in the next few days, weeks, they are going to the printers. Printing will be done for all core subjects.” in other words, printing of the textbooks is yet the only pipeline.
According to Dr. Yaw Osei, all the core subjects of the Standard-Based Curriculum are going to be printed and distributed first after negotiations of the price is finalized. In other words, the government is negotiating how much to buy the core textbooks from the publishers to be distributed to public schools to be used by learners and teachers and also aid in teaching and learning.
