Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana Initiates Steps to Coin A New Name For The Union

The Executive Board of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana has revealed that it has initiated steps to coin a new name for the union.

What this means is that, very soon, the union will not be known as Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH) anymore.

The third-highest teacher union in pre-tertiary education disclosed in a press statement released on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, that the current name was coined out of the series of demonstrations organized by varied groups using ‘concerned teachers’ during the negotiation of the Single Spine Salary Structure between 2010 and 2011.

Thus, the name has to be changed so that it will be accepted both nationally and internationally.

Below is the full press statement:

The Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH) was borne out of the spontaneous reaction that occurred during the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) in 2010/2011 where teachers were short-changed.

As a result, Teachers all over the country embarked on nationwide demonstrations and industrial action with each group using the name ‘Concern Teachers’ out of which the name COALITION OF CONCERNED TEACHERS GHANA (CCT-GH)’ was birthed when the aggrieved teachers decided to form a new Union.

It has become prudent in recent times that the name of the Union, COALITION OF CONCERNED TEACHERS GHANA (CCT GH) be changed to one that would be accepted by all both Nationally and
Internationally.

The National Executive Council (NEC) thus, at its 41st meeting, formed a committee with a mandate to solicit for possible names that could replace the name COALITION OF CONCERNED TEACHERS GHANA (CCT-GH).

We therefore call on all members of the Union to present proposed names to the committee through WhatsApp on 0503496791 as follows:

Name:
PROPOSALS FOR CHANGE OF UNION NAME
Staff ID:
Proposed Union name:
Phone number:
This should be done latest by 31st of May 2023

The proposer of the name accepted by the National Executive Council (NEC) will be rewarded.
