If you are a newly trained teacher who has successfully completed the mandatory national service and passed your teacher licensure examination, then this news goes to you.

The Finance Ministry has on this day, 19th November 2021 given financial clearance to employ thousands of newly trained teachers into the Ghana Education Service as classroom teachers in the public schools.

Number and category of teachers to be employed

According to a letter from the Ministry which has been sighted by Bricy Boateng, it reads, “Financial Clearance is hereby given to the Hon. Minister of Education to enable the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to recruit sixteen thousand, eight hundred ad fifty (16,850) Newly Trained Teachers for the service.”

The Finance Minister has also charged the Director-General of GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah to make the necessary plans to process trainees’ documents to be used by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) for the payment of salaries

“The Director General of the Ghana Education Service is to ensure that the Newly Trained Teachers have their documents in time and placed on the mechanized payroll early enough to enable the Controller and Accountant General’s Department effect payments of their salaries.” It added.

Appointment Date

Concerning the appointment date for trainees to start work, the letter noted, “The effective date for appointment should not be earlier than 1st December 2021.”

This means that the Education Ministry together with the Ghana Education Service has a period of thirty days, that is, between December 1 and 31 to recruit trainees into the service as well as finish all documentation on their salaries. The Ministry of Finance quoted that the clearance expires on 31st December 2021.

The Finance Ministry earlier last month gave verbal assurance to TTAG that a financial clearance would be given in the month of November, surely that has happened.

However, before the clearance letter, there were news making rounds on social media that only six hundred (600) trainees would be recruited, but I refuted it and educated trainees on the real figures. Congratulations to anyone who makes it through the recruitment process.
