[AUDIO] Director-General Of GES Gives Date For Basic School Reopening

Prof. Opoku Amankwah, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the exact date for all public basic schools in the country. In addition to that, he has given reasons for the delay in the academic calendars for SHSs and also talked about the standard test for private schools.

Reopening Date
Speaking on UTV yesterday, Prof. Amankwa indicated that all the public basic schools including KG, Primary, and Junior High Schools are to return to school next week, January 18,2022.
He noted that if not for the National Standardized Test which extended the vacation date, basic schools were to report to school on January 11, 2022. Hence, the one-week used for the exams has been added to the reopening date, thus Tuesday, 18th January 2022 is the new date for basic schools.

Speaking on the academic calendar which is in circulation on social media platforms, the DG said it is not official nor authentic because it bears no signatory adding that basic schools are NOT returning to school on 25th January 2022.

Standardized Test For Private Schools

The DG noted that subsequent National Standardized Tests will include the private schools. He noted that the maiden edition was targeted at the public schools to give a picture of learners’ performances in the public schools.

SHS Calendar
Prof. Amankwa said they will release the academic calendar soon for all senior high schools as well as basic schools. Meanwhile, he mentioned that by 2024, public basic schools would have returned to the usual calendar, which began in September/October and ended in June/July.
