Accra, 22nd August 2024 – The Coalition of Un-Upgraded Teachers (CUT) in Ghana has called upon the leadership of teacher unions, including the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-GH), to address ongoing challenges related to the upgrading of in-service teachers.
In a letter addressed to the national presidents of the unions, the coalition highlights the frustration of numerous teachers who have successfully passed exams, met educational requirements, and have remained in service for the required years, yet continue to face delays in their promotion and salary upgrades. The teachers, who are expecting to rise to higher ranks, are still receiving salaries pegged to lower grades. This issue, according to the coalition, has caused significant financial and psychological strain on its members.
The letter, signed by the coalition’s secretary, Mr. Francis Agyemang, appeals for collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance to swiftly address these concerns. The coalition emphasized that their members are losing hope as they experience prolonged stagnation on the professional ladder, and they hope for a speedy resolution to alleviate the frustration among teachers.
CUT is confident that with immediate intervention from the stakeholders, the situation can be resolved, restoring motivation and financial relief to affected teachers.
The letter has also been circulated to all regional and district secretaries of the unions for further action.
