Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lauded the party’s significant strides in Ghana’s education sector, particularly through the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement at the Church of Pentecost in the Okaikwei South Constituency, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the Free SHS policy has not only increased student enrollment but also enhanced the quality of education across the country.
He highlighted that contrary to critics’ fears, the policy has led to improved student performance, with recent West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results proving that Ghana’s educational standards have risen. Notably, the top three students in West Africa are from Ghana, showcasing the success of the policy.
Dr. Bawumia also pointed out the achievement of gender parity in education and the introduction of modern learning tools, such as tablets for SHS students, as further evidence of the NPP’s commitment to transforming education in Ghana.
In addition to education, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his dedication to enhancing agriculture under his potential presidency, with a focus on increasing food production and reducing the high cost of food in the market.
This engagement was part of his tour in the Greater Accra Region, where he met with community leaders, clergy, and students to discuss these key issues.
