Examination Date: 23rd to 25th September 2024
The National Teaching Council is mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (ACT 1023) to regulate the teaching profession in Ghana. As part of the Council’s regulatory functions, it is required to conduct examinations for licensing individuals who wish to teach. The purpose of the Licensing Examination is to enable qualified teachers to acquire a professional license and to determine whether candidates meet the National Teachers’ Standards regarding professional knowledge, practice, values, and attitudes necessary to deliver effectively in schools.
All fresh candidates shall write three papers, which include:
i. General Professional Knowledge Paper: This paper comprises numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills content.
ii. Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy Paper: The pedagogies are differentiated by levels of specialization: Early Grade or Early Childhood, Primary and JHS, SHS/SHTS, and Technical Vocational Schools.
iii. Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subject Content Knowledge (subject specialism):
a) Multiple Subjects Content: Prospective teachers trained for Early Grade/Early Childhood or Primary levels will write the Multiple Subjects Content Paper.
b) Single Subject Specialism: Prospective teachers trained for junior high, senior high, or TVET will write one paper in their area of specialization.
Prospective candidates may visit https://ntc.gov.gh/gtle-content/ for detailed content areas and tables of specification.
i. A candidate is eligible to write the 2024 GTLE 3 only if they have a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
ii. Candidates with foreign degrees must provide a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to prove their eligibility.
i. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to check your status and determine whether your data has been uploaded onto the portal by your training institution before starting the registration process.
ii. If your details have been uploaded, you will be indexed before registering for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.
iii. The indexing fee is Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH₵50.00). However, re-sit candidates will not go through the indexing process.
iv. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd or GCB Bank PLC nationwide, or via mobile money using the short code 77251# for Prudential Bank Ltd or 422151# for GCB Bank PLC across all networks using your college or university index number.
v. After successful payment, you will receive a message on your phone containing your name, indexing number, and further instructions.
vi. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to verify your details by logging in with your indexing number received via SMS. For in-banking payments, if you do not receive your indexing number immediately, you can use your transaction number from the bank, found on the payment receipt, to log in and verify your details.
vii. Use the indexing number to register for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.
NOTE 1:
i. A prospective candidate should only make payment if their details have been uploaded onto the indexing portal by their training institutions.
ii. A prospective candidate cannot pay for indexing at the bank or via the short code if they do not have a minimum qualification of a degree.
a) Fresh candidates shall pay Four Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH₵450.00) for three papers.
b) Candidates re-sitting one paper must pay GH₵150.00.
c) Candidates re-sitting two (2) papers must pay GH₵210.00.
d) Candidates re-sitting all three (3) papers must pay GH₵385.00.
i. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd or GCB Bank PLC nationwide, or via mobile money using the short code 77251# for Prudential Bank Ltd or 422151# for GCB Bank PLC.
ii. Where payment is made at the bank, candidates must remember to take their Pin and Serial Number from the bank.
iii. Log on to exams.ntc.gov.gh
iv. Enter your e-voucher Serial Number and Pin.
v. Fill in all the fields and remember to upload a passport-size photograph of less than 250kb with a white background.
NOTE 2:
i. Any person who is not qualified or does not have their details on the examination portal and proceeds to make any payment will not receive a refund.
ii. NTC will not accept any requests for changes to photographs after the examination.
iii. Review all information provided before submitting.
iv. Print a summary of the inputs made.
v. Read the examination regulations and check the box before submission.
vi. Candidates should keep their Pin and Serial Numbers secure after registration for further use.
Candidates must complete their online registration no later than 5th September 2024.
NOTE 3:
i. There will be no extension of the registration deadline beyond 5th September 2024.
ii. The dress code should be formal or professional.
iii. No babies are allowed in the examination hall.
NOTE 4:
The ongoing registration for the 2024 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 3 is for holders of a Bachelor of Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education only. Any holder of a Bachelor of Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education who has a referral in the traditional GTLE (Essential Professional Skills, Literacy, and Numeracy) and wishes to write the 2024 GTLE 3 must start the process afresh. However, any diplomate who has referrals in the traditional GTLE and wishes to write the GTLE in 2024 and beyond must first obtain a degree.
