Madina, June 4, 2024 – The La Nkwantanang Municipal Director of Education, Kean Adjei Appiah, has raised alarms about a hazardous structure located at the Madina SDA Basic School. The building, positioned centrally within the school premises, poses significant risks to the safety of the pupils, according to Mr. Appiah.

Addressing the media last Friday, Mr. Appiah called on the Municipal Assembly to take swift action to demolish the building. He highlighted that the privately-owned structure, along with its septic tank, is a danger to the schoolchildren. Despite a petition submitted by the school authorities, the Assembly has yet to respond.

Mr. Appiah explained that the government owns the land on which the school is built. Initially, the government commissioned the SDA Church to establish the school, but later assumed control of the institution. The owner of the problematic building, however, has ignored repeated appeals to vacate the premises, prompting Mr. Appiah to urge the Municipal Assembly to intervene decisively.

Isaac Addo, the PTA Chairman, expressed parents’ growing concerns about their children’s safety. He noted that the structure not only poses a physical threat but also causes considerable inconvenience for the students. Efforts by the SDA Church to resolve the issue and have the building vacated have been unsuccessful.

Mr. Addo emphasized the potential danger of the septic tank, which could harm the pupils who play nearby daily, in addition to posing a public health risk. The school community remains anxious, hoping for prompt action from the authorities to ensure the safety of the children.
