The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has called on the national leadership of the pre-tertiary teacher unions to call their agitated members to order.

According to the Commission, the on-going agitations by the teachers flout the negotiated agreement between government and their leaders.

Chief Executive Officer of the FWSC, Ben Arthur made the call in an exclusive interview with our labour correspondent, Daniel Opoku in Accra on May 7, 2024.

Mr Ben Arthur, CEO OF Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Mr Arthur said, the Commission has already reached a conclusion on most of the demands of the teachers.

“For regional executives to stand and make such pronouncement for me, it speaks volumes. It is just as saying they are undermining their national leadership, and with the last few items, I am very sure we will come to amicable settlement.

I have always said that for those who use strike as a means get their issues resolved their issues have always not received the best,” he said.

He added that, “government cannot, and Fair Wages and Salaries Commission cannot occupy every classroom to go and teach and the employees cannot also pay themselves. We have one interest, the interest is to move this country forward. For me, I think their national executives should come out and speak to their followers about the outcome of our last meeting.

It would be recalled that on Friday May 3, pre-tertiary teacher unions demonstrated to demand the implementation of their approved conditions of service.

On Monday, May 6, the pre-tertiary teachers across the country raised the same concerns.

The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah Tanko pleaded with government to intervene.
