Constipation is the inability to freely release bowels. It is caused by many factors such lack of enough water in your body, eating more fat and lack of fibre intake. Getting constipation can ruin your day and eventually affect your good health both physically and mentally.

Conversely, constipation is a digestive disorder that occurs when your intestinal movements slow down causing its ability to remove solid and liquid waste from the body.

I have heard many people complaining about getting constipation and this is because of modern eating lifestyle and dietary choices people make. Some common signs of constipation is headache, inflammation, has and discomfort.

Generally speaking, there are some foods that can cause constipation. As a health conscious person, it is advisable to monitor the foods you eat and know how each one makes you feel after consuming it. Some people get constipation from eating white bread. In case you are one of them, you need to drink more water to avoid it.

The following ways can help you prevent constipation and improve your quality of life.

1. Drink more water
Drinking water every day is one of the most important things you can do to prevent constipation and poor digestion.

2. Eat more foods containing fibre
Eating foods rich in fiber helps prevent constipation and other digestive conditions. Foods that contain fiber include: Whole grains, green vegetables, apples, pears and citrus fruits.

3. Reduce fat intake
Foods that are high in fat not only reduce your metabolism but also slow your digestion. Fats take long hours to breakdown thereby increasing your chance of developing constipation. Examples include, sausages, packaged snacks, pizza and burgers.

4. Regular exercise
When you do exercise, you move your body, and it improves the passage of waste through the intestine.

5. Check your eating time
To prevent constipation, you should always eat your main meals at the same time every day.

6. Visit the washroom as soon as possible
Some people retrain their urine or bowels whenever they feel like visiting the washroom. This is a bad habit and can affect your intestines and digestive system.
